After 2 years in private practice, it's time to start connecting to Twitter.

I believe that when we contribute to each others' resources,  we become a wealth of knowledge and skill. The more tools you have in your "toolbox" of life, the more confident you become in your skills to adapt to the variety of experiences that are coming your way.  

I read a lot and study every chance I get, especially when a client brings up a subject that really makes me think.  I'll share some of the things I learn about in my journey toward growth for you and me.

Trauma Healing

Although I am a "talk" therapist and find it incredibly effective for certain issues like depression and anxiety, I am learning more and more about trauma work and how somatic treatments are needed. After a trauma, feeling safe again is the most important thing. You can't "know" safety, you need to "feel" safe. Talk therapy can help later to work through the issues that have developed after the trauma but apparently it's not needed for most folks. You need to find physical activities that get the trauma energy OUT. There are somatic and EMDR therapists that help with this if yoga, walking, EFT, hugging, dancing etc don't work.
